Wow - Where am I

Well, now, i've been all over the place, in SL -out of SL. Simply all over the place. Im not building anymore, gave that away, no time really. I still have my stock if anyone is interested.

I decided to become a consumer in SL and a social person. I've met a lot of interesting people here and there. Some touched me deeply, some are just annoying, and some I count as true friends here.

So I'm taking a break from regular SL for a while. I think I'll spend some time looking at the alternate grids and see whats happening out there.

Hope to see someone I know sometime.

OpenLifeGrid - Check it out

I decided to go on a vacation. Destination, Openlifegrid.

Well, what a refreshing experience, much smaller than my world in SL, but so refreshing to appear as a Noob again with no resources and the opportunity to wander around and recreate my myself. Wow, no lag... Given it is in early stages, there are not a lot of scripts running, so the experience is wondeful, with full windlight support, breathtaking.

I feel like a kid again.

SLOz gets a revamp

Those of you familiar with the Aussies in SL movement will be aware of the SLOz website. Recently, they have had a revamp and are expanding their reporting on virtual worlds in general.

Jump over to the The Metaverse Journal and take a look. If you are interested in Virtual worlds, and want to see what is happening with Australian content and reporting this is well worth a lookit.

Beach House

Wow, June, That was a long time ago. Time travels when you are not looking it seems. A short update today to introduce you to the Beach House I have designed. Playing with a couple of ideas here, one being the really big sliding doors and an experiment with my own texturing and control of vertical drapes.

Vertical drapes are now the norm in most modern and even older houses. Not satisfied with the textures available in SL to date I've decided to create my own high quality ones. The Beach house features the first of these.

SL still has a problem distinguishing layers of alpha channels and at some angles the blinds think they are in front and sometime the windows think they are in front. Not much I can on the client side to fix this.

Anyway, enjoy the Beach house if you want one and keep an eye out on vertical drape releases on their own in the future.

Closing the Hite Site

Well, my time in Hite was fun, but it's time to move on to bigger and better things. I'm selling the Hite Site and I'll leave the building there. The building is no transfer as I am still running the business there and don't want to transfer the stock of course. But, if the buyer wants to use the build for their own venture, I'll be happy to leave it there for them. Once the place is sold, I'll be looking for a bigger plot to build the new Orion Keynes Design Stuio on.

Introducing the Annulus House...

I've been building a lot lately and decided to take a break from the OKD Studio Series and finish a large format house that I have been designing for a while now. Well, the wait is over and the Annulus house is here.

Inspired by the round houses so popular years ago, this one does not spin, but is based on a round design with a few neat features. There is a privacy room downstairs that is accessed by a phantom prim, and I have re-introduced the tint menu system used in some of my earlier work to maintain that privacy if it is what customer's want.

Introducing the OKD Studio Series

Orion Keynes Design is proud to annouce the OKD Studio Series. Designed for businesses in Second Life, The OKD Studio Series of buildings will enhance the look and sophistication of your in-world presence.

The OKS Studio 4 is a medium building with 4 suites.

These could be used as offices or retail outlets. The builds are positioned using the Rez Foo tool and are copy mod so you can create your own retail precinct and decorate the buildings with your special look and feel.

The main windows can all be adjusted by editing the individual parts. Changing the 'hole' size of the windows allows you to create solid walls or massive windows. The choice is yours.

The number in the title denotes how many spaces are available in the build.

The OKD Studio Four will soon be joined by smaller and possibly even larger buildings to bring diversity to your precinct. Also watch out for the OKD Studio booths and Mini-mall. Comming soon to Orion Keynes Design.

Where am I....

It's been a while I know, very bad of me. Well, I am still around but fleshbot (my RL self) has been really busy. This week, fleshbot moves house, and there ain't no internet in the new place for at least a week. So I won't be in-world anytime soon.

That said, on my return, I'll be releasing a new range of buildings that cater to the businesses in SL. A set of studios and mall like thingys to house your business. The first example is on show right now in my studio, so go check it out. If you have any questions about it, send me an IM...

Eleganze Rage of couches Released

Here is the new Eleganze range of couches. The black leather ones make a fine compliment to the Bourke range and the White Leather for the Ami Range of office and casual furniture.

A feature of the coloured fabrics is the addition of bumpmapping to enhance these textures that you would not normally see on furniture.

I might do some more of these.

Orion Keynes Design Site in Hamlin - Sold

My previous site in Hamlin has sold with the building. Looks like is was sold to another content developer and they have started moving into the building. They actually kept the build and the site sold within 24 house of me putting it up.

That kinda surprised me. The picture in this blog entry was a shot (amongst a bunch of shots) that I took before I removed my stock.

It surprises me because I truely expected it to take a lot longer to sell. I'm wondering now, if it was the fact that there was a ready made comercial styled build there. So the new owner could simply just move in and restock the place.

This is an interesting development. I wonder if there is a market for pre-fab sites. That is, you buy a parcel, develop a build for it that ties into the environment, and then sell it with the build. Has anyone ever seen this before? I have seen a situation where a mall was purchased lock stock and barrel. The new owners put a few of their own businesses there, but given that most of the tennents were rental (so the products did not belong to the owners per se) then this is another version of the same thing.

Maybe there is a market, for building a business whether it be a mall, or a manufacturer, where one can actually sell a profitable business, as opposed to just a parcel with a funky build...

...The mind boggles.

Anyway, I've started a new line of furiture called Bali. Designed from research into the furniture and architechure of islands close to home. At the Studio in Hite, it is located down in the Marina. Only a couple of items so far, but I have a few plans for some interesting furniture that I want to explore. If you do go and see it, I'd like to know what you think. I'll post some pictures soon.

Wow, I played around with a little scripting today and made a signboard for the store that hands out the url to this blog. I had seen similar things before but never really saw use for me.

Well, Now that I have a blog, I thought it would be a good idea to link it into the Studio. Now, visitors to the Studio can come directly to the blog. Cool

In other news, I created a new group too called Orion Keynes Design (yea, I know, reall original). So now, if you join the group, I can keep everyone updated.

Orion Keynes Design 'Hite' Opens

Here are a couple of shots of my new Studio in the Region 'Hite'. I've gone with a differnt build here and simplified the modern design. I've also moved away from from the brown metal stuctures that have been my trademark in the past. Since the Microsoft Zune is available in my trademark colors, it is no longer cool.

The new studio has all of the stock moved over and the old Hamlin site is now for sale, including the building. Maybe we will see some other cool trader running a business from my old build.

Now that I have more prims to play with, I decided to build a marina with some of my favorite ships. The full detail Defender II is there now, but in my search of SL boat builders, I could't find as modern Yacht that I like. I'm thinking I might build my own if I get the time, now that I have the space.

Well,

OKD is my business in Second Life. I make furniture and such as well as houses, shops and custom builds for people. I've been in business for about 6 months and expaning all the time. The picture here is of my current studio in Hamlin. I've just purchased a new parcel in another sim, just a few regions away from the Linden Village.

More on that later.

Welcome to 2007. My bits are flowing again after a short stint in the Hunter Valley. Upcoming topics of interest for Orion Keynes Design (I should probably tell you all what this is).

I'll be advertising this blog in the Studio for people to keep up with what I'm doing
creating a group in SL for customers so I can let you know when things are changing.

The most important change is that I have purchased a new parcel for the studio. It is less actual land that the current studio in Hamlin, but the parcel is much bigger and completely surounded by water. Yes, it's a small island on the mainland, not far from the Linden Village. So, stay tuned for updates on the build and of course, the eventual move to the new home of Orion Keynes Design.

It's late on boxing day and I'm in world poking around again. My fleshself is back from eyeballing the rest of the fleshrelatives and is a little worn out. Back to work in RL tomorrow for a couple of days and then I'm going to sleep for a few days as fleshself heads off to the Hunter Valley for a couple of days of sunshine and country air...

What Happened to my Skin?

Now, normally, when I log into SL, I have to rebake my textures because my flared pants have turned into drainpipes. I can't wait, so I just rebake them.

Well.. this time, all my skin disapeared and I look like I've been in the sun too long. It isn't that bad a look really, I might just keep it this way, lol

Who is Orion Keynes?

I was born early in 2006 in a place called Second Life. A universe created by Linden Lab, a world made real by the people who live there, a place I've come to love, and a place that has brought things out of me that I never new were there.

I've been given a set of tools; tools to create my world with, and the opportunity to share that creation with others. I've never been a blogger, but I have learned so much from the experience so far that I want to share. I want to write. I want to leave something here, in this virtual world, a piece of me.

This is my story.
